Welcome to Pony Clubs

Message from Your DC

Dear Member

If you are new to the club or have grown out of your old kit, we recommend that you buy the following essentials

  • A white or blue Numnah – either are suitable for rallies and camp, but if you plan on competing at all, then you will definitely need a white one.
  • A polo shirt – there are 2 options that cover the shoulders – the sleeveless one must not be worn when riding but are ideal for Parents and instructors.
  • Either a junior sweatshirt or a half zip sweatshirt.

For rallies I would prefer a polo shirt in warm weather, or  a sweatshirt or a jacket in cold weather. I appreciate that the jackets are expensive so a plain navy blue (or dark colour) coat will suffice if you don’t wish to buy the Rufford branded one.

Other items that are very useful are

  • A skin – You will need one if you are representing the pony club in any team cross country events, but also great for layering when it is freezing or can be worn on its own for rallies.
  • A waterproof or soft shell. The kids all love them and they are fabulous at competitions.
  • Ties and stocks (for seniors.) Stocks will be available soon from the shop

For those of you that have been awarded badges, they can either be sewn onto your blue numnah, your sweatshirt, or the special blanket available from JS Teamwear

All tops can have initials or names put on them. However I pass on a word of caution:  children grow very quickly and if you want to pass on your outgrown clothes, they sell better without someone else’s initials on them!!

Please remember that hoodies are not to be worn during riding, if you fall off and the pony gets his foot in the hood, it can cause an accident.

Also remember no earrings and hair to be secured in a hairnet (and scrunchie for long hair).

Beige jodhpurs/breeches are preferred, with boots and chaps, long boots are acceptable for seniors. Please make sure that all tack is in good condition and it should be cleaned before attending a pony club activity…. remember to check for any cracks, broken stitching etc, especially on girth straps, girths, reins and stirrup leathers.

I really hope that this clarifies things. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions, otherwise I look forward to seeing you all soon, and happy ordering!
